FitFact: Top 3 women who really go the extra mile
March 8th is International Women’s Day. Today we are taking this as an opportunity to present 3 outstanding female athletes who have achieved incredible things in their respective disciplines. Women are supposed to be the “weaker sex”? Not at all: These 3 sportswomen are true power women and inspire us to overcome our own limits and get the best out of ourselves:
3) Lydia Valentín

Lydia Valentín is a Spanish weightlifter and multiple Olympic medal winner. She has set numerous titles and records in her career and is known for her impressive technique and strength. In 2012, she won the gold medal at the Olympic Games in London, lifting 145 kilograms with a body weight of 75 kilograms in the clean and jerk. This exercise requires not only a lot of strength but also a clean technique and good coordination – many muscle groups are trained at the same time. Lydia’s achievements show how strong women are and inspire them to want to overcome their own limits.
2) Nicola Spirig

We all know Nicola Spirig – she is our Swiss triathlete and Olympic champion. She has won numerous international titles and continues to impress with her endurance and versatility. For her 2012 Olympic gold medal, she finished the triathlon after one hour 59 minutes and 48 hundredths in a photo finish just a hair’s breadth ahead of second-placed Lisa Nordén. Nicola showed not only iron will but also stamina and came out on top. Her performances can really motivate you to keep going and get the best out of yourself. One of her favorite exercises to improve her running is the incline run. In the first 15 minutes, she warms up with easy running and then increases her speed every 15 minutes. After an hour, the training session is over and she finishes with a five-minute cool-down.
1) Simone Biles

Simone Biles is one of the most successful gymnasts of all time. With her incredible strength and athleticism, she has won numerous medals at the Olympic Games and World Championships. Their ability to perform complex and powerful exercises with ease is exceptional and the result of hard training. At the 2024 Olympic Games, she won three gold medals and one silver, setting a new record as the American gymnast with the most Olympic medals. She serves as an inspiration to many young female athletes around the world to pursue their own dreams.
What role models! These three women impressively demonstrate that strength and determination are not a question of gender. Simone, Lydia and Nicola have proven with their sporting achievements that women are in no way inferior to men in sport.
